Ngozi: Burundi Red Cross assists victims of torrential rains from Gatsinda.

This Wednesday March 27th of 2019, the Burundi Red Cross provided assistance to 105 families victims of the torrential rains of March 23rd, 2019. They are all from Gatsinda Zone, in the Mwumba Commune of the Province of Ngozi. Each household received sheets, a kitchen kit, nails, insecticide-treated mosquito nets, notebooks and biscuits. The distribution activities took place in the chief area of Gatsinda zone in the presence of the local leaders and victims of this natural disaster.

The beneficiaries are delighted by the humanitarian action of the Burundi Red Cross. “We really needed this assistance since the rains damaged all our houses and belongings. Indeed, the health of our children was also threatened since we are in the rain season. We sincerely thank the Burundi Red Cross for being the first to assist us,” said a comforted mother.

Ndayizeye Emmanuel, Communal administrator of Mwumba Commuhne appreciates this charitable act of the Red Cross, the first to grant assistance to victims of Gatsinda. He calls on other benefactors to follow step started by the Burundi Red Cross.

Donate Ndayongeje, coordinator of the Branch of Ngozi, justifies this timely response to result from the use of DTM tool which allows a rapid needs assessment in case of disasters. “Assisting the vulnerable is our identity, and needs are currently identified in the right time with the DTM tool.”

On the 23rd March, 2019, the rains mixed with hails destroyed and damaged more than 100 houses leaving behind him numerous families without shelter and creating all types of vulnerabilities.
